I was about to leave home for good

Kat spoke to the charity after choosing to leave home

Life had become overwhelming. My family was under intense financial pressure, and arguments at home were constant and loud. I felt like a burden. Just another problem my parents had to deal with. I honestly believed that leaving would make things easier for everyone. Being at home felt unbearable, and staying no longer seemed like an option.

One evening, I packed a bag with a few belongings and walked out of the house with no clear plan. I had no money, nowhere to go, and no idea what would happen next. My intention was simple but dangerous: to go to the train station and start a new life, even though I didn’t know where I would end up.

Getting support

So, I decided to call.

On that first call, the person on the other end listened carefully and gave me space to talk about what had been happening at home and how I was feeling. I wasn’t rushed or told what to do. They offered emotional support and practical solutions, helping me think through my immediate safety, my options, and what support could look like beyond that night.

With their help, I decided to go back home.

That call wasn’t the end. Since that evening, I’ve continued to call daily for ongoing support. These regular conversations have helped me feel less alone, more stable, and better able to cope with what’s happening in my family. I truly believe that my decision not to go missing was directly linked to seeing that prevention message at the train station and knowing there was someone I could reach out to immediately.
